I have a MacBook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.4. I also have an Office 365 subscription and recently saw that I could upgrade to Office 2106. There was no advice visible to uninstall Office 2011 first, and in fact I worried about doing so in case the 2016 didn't work properly.
So I downloaded Office 2016, which installed itself alongside the 2011 without overwriting it. Then I saw a message to uninstall 2011, which I did.
- The font appears in font lists and operates normally in every application except the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 application suite. In Word, Excel and Powerpoint, the font does not appear in the ribbon list, but in Word, Excel and Powerpoint, it does appear in the list if you click on 'Format, Cell, Font'.
- 2018-4-12 Open Application Support, and then Microsoft. Open Office, and then User Templates. Drag normal.dotm to the desktop. Restart the Mac. If the problem is resolved, you can drag the normal.dotm file from the desktop to the Trash. If the problem continues to occur, go to the next method. Method 6: Remove Word preferences.
You can use remote desktop to check on a job’s progress or start tasks without actually being physically at the machine.
If we want to mess with our Windows 10 test machine, we don’t need to actually be there. As we mentioned, being able to connect to a Windows machine is a pleasant convenience. For example, your Windows PC may be a super beefy machine you use to do compiling or rendering. Connecting to a Mac from a Windows PCConnecting to a Mac from a Windows PC is a little different.
2015-12-24 I noticed that there is a bug in Word 365 for mac when I use fonts. In fact, if I type words in upper case with the Arial font and I use uppercase characters with accents, word changes the font in HELVETICA. It's impossible to change them in arial font. Thanks for your help Hi, Which language version of Office do you use? English or Indonesian.
Everything seems to work ok EXCEPT that Word documents (I don't know about Excel) no longer recognise Times New Roman fonts. It still says TNR in the font box at the top of the document, but the font on screen defaults to Calibri or some other sans serif font.
I need to use TNR for work purposes so telling me to use another one is not helpful. I had never had a problem with it in Office 2011.
In searches I've seen that other people have had the same problem with Office for Mac 2016 but none of the solutions given seem to exactly match what I see on my screen so I want to ask again. For one thing, I'm confused about the different Font folders in my Mac – I have both a Fonts and a Fonts Disabled folder in the main Library (alt-Go from Finder) with two sets of lists of Fonts, and also Fonts and Fonts Disabled folders in the Library reached from Macintosh HD with lists that are different. And in Font Book the lists are different again.
Also, Times New Roman still shows up on my computer in Font Book, as an active font, and in the Fonts Disabled folder in Macintosh HD/Library (all ttf fonts). I have seen on one site that Office for 2011 disabled certain Apple ttf fonts (including TNR) and replaced them with its own in a Microsoft fonts folder. As part of uninstalling 2011 I had to trash this folder, but Office 2016 doesn't seem to have replaced it with an equivalent version of TNR.
DOES THIS MEAN that if I do something as simple as move the Times New Roman.ttf out of the Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts Disabled folder and into the Fonts folder next to it this could restore TNR in Office 2016? I didn't want to try it without asking for any suggestions first.
As to the contradictions between the different Font folders and Font Book any suggestions would be helpful too, but for me this is a less urgent question since the other fonts, wherever they appear, seem to work.
Many thanks in advance for any orientation,
Nick Rider

While installing Office 2011 for Mac, users should examine their font collections, as bad fonts can cause applications to crash. You can use Font Book to identify fonts that have problems and help you remove these fonts. Font Book classifies fonts into three categories:
- Passed (safe to use)
- Minor problems
- Major problems
Here’s how you check for bad fonts in Office 2011 for Mac:
Windows Terminal Font
Microsoft Office Mac
- Double-click the Font Book application in the Applications folder.Font Book opens.
- In the Collection column, click All Fonts.
- Select any font listed in the Font column.
- Press Command-A to select all your fonts. The entire list of font names is highlighted now.
- From the menu bar, choose File→Validate Fonts. The Font Validation window opens. Allow the process to complete. It may take a while if you have a lot of fonts that have problems. Font Book puts a green badge next to fonts that are okay. The yellow badges with an exclamation mark and the red badges indicate fonts that have problems.
- Click the pop-up menu in the upper-left corner of the Font Validation window, and choose Warnings Or Errors.Font Book filters the list to show only fonts that have problems that need to be resolved. A yellow or red badge appears next to each font that has a problem.
- Select each check box next to fonts that appear in the list when you’ve turned on the Warnings Or Errors filter. Each font selected should have a yellow or red badge. Don’t select fonts with green OK badges, which have check marks.Be certain the Warnings Or Errors filter is applied before selecting the check boxes. Do not use Select All; that can select all your fonts. You don’t want to remove your good fonts or system fonts!
- In the Font Validation window, click Remove Fonts.Any fonts you’ve selected are moved to the Trash. When you empty the Trash, they are completely removed from your system.
- Restart your computer.
Cascadia Code
To put your fonts back, right-click them in the Trash and choose Put Back. You can drag your deleted fonts out of the Trash and copy them to a disc to make an archive copy. To get rid of the fonts forever, empty the Trash while the fonts are in the Trash.
